| Overview |
|
We provided the Team Leader for this research to assess attitudes, expectations and aspirations of individuals involved in education in BiH. A mixture of self-completion questionnaires, questionnaire-led interviews and focus groups was used to collect data from young people in secondary and tertiary education, their parents and their teachers. The focus of this work was on attitudes to education and its relationship to the world of work and on issues of financing improvements to the education and training system.
The work involved:
- Design of questionnaires
- Brief for focus groups
- Analysis of data
- Drafting of report
The research found that both students and their parents expressed general satisfaction with the educational system but identified issues that needed to be addressed. These issues included the modernisation of the curriculum and making it more responsive to employers’ needs. Teachers appeared to be more conservative in their diagnosis and were generally of the opinion that the major improvement to be made was an increase in public expenditure on education.
